I,m not sure if I should write to you because I don't know who you are and I don't know what the pain and trouble of your past have been or what struggles you are confronting now. I do not want to offer anything trite, but as your sister in Christ I hope to offer you a little encouragement, which we are instructed to do in scripture. We are not alone in troubled pasts, any of us, as God's word also says to us, trials that are common to man, nor are we to consider ourselves forsaken by our savior when we are visited by them as Jesus told His disciples; in the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. A few months ago I was sharing with a friend how I was thankful for God's mercy to me but that as I looked at myself I often found it very hard to believe God could continue to bear with me. Her response was to cite some old christian writer who counselled that for every look one takes at himself, he should take two at his savior. It was one of those aha moments for me. Here is the common mistake for me, looking long hard and discouraged at my own slowness to grow and be free and healed and whatever else is lacking and there always is and will be, but not taking a good hard look at Jesus HIs work for me on the cross His promises to me that are really not contingent on my performance. I often fail to just bask in His love by faith because frankly my feelings are not always very cooperative. We have to walk by faith, not by sight. I hoe this will help you to walk in a little of the joy of your Lord. Let Him love you broken and in need and tired and hurt . How else can He love you. Seeing us in our guilt and condemnation and failure and helplessness led Him to suffer in our place on the cross. He is our deliverer . and not ourselves
